The 1 st Annual Rhode Island Girls’ High School All Star Game, sponsored by RILAX, was played under sunny skies at
Classical High School on Saturday June 6, 2009. Forty-nine All Division selections participated in exciting lacrosse action as the Pink team defeated the White team 18-14. Becky Bracken of Barrington, Taylor Bastien of North Kingstown and Jess Rubine of Moses Brown led the winning team in scoring and Avery Griffith of Barrington and Nicole Caouette of North Providence were stellar in goal. The White team received strong offensive efforts from Kayla Whiting of Mt.Hope, Erin Murtagh of Cranston East, and Cate Colucci of Bay View. Goalie Amanda Kalk of Prout stopped several point blank shots between the pipes and kept the game close. Win or lose, the game provided Rhode Island’s best high school players from all three divisions an opportunity to display their talents and have fun while raising money for a good cause. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation.
In addition to RILAX, major support of the game was provided by the Gob Shop (game shirts) and Ullucci Sports Medicine (athletic trainer). The game organizers wish to also thank Amica Insurance, 2nd Time Around Sports, The Bishop Group Insurance and Realty, DL Sportsphoto, New England Pest Control, Ocean State Lacrosse Club, Portsmouth High School, the Portsmouth Summer League and South County Youth Lacrosse for their support of the event. Game photos can be purchased at dlsportsphoto.org.
